American Century Championship celebrates 25 years of Tahoe South’s wild side adventure

Celebrating its Silver Anniversary, the American Century Championship at Tahoe South continues to astound those who compete and return year after year. For many, it's the spectacular backdrop of the snow-capped Sierra Nevada set against Edgewood Tahoe. For others, it's the promised wild side Tahoe South is known for, with its countless outdoor recreation options, incredible restaurants, star-studded nightlife, and world class gaming.

Whether you prefer skiing on a mountain or behind a boat, riding mountain bikes or giving it a run at the blackjack table, Tahoe South does it in two states: California and Nevada. It teams with sun-up to sun-down adventure, A-list entertainment, theater and music festivals, winter skiing and a bounty of summer sports that makes the area the most action-packed destination in the U.S. It's no wonder the readers of USA Today ranked Tahoe as the Best Lake in America in 2012.

From sun up to sun down Tahoe South has enough activities to keep you busy 24/7.

Here's what you’ll find when you choose the wild side.

Biking: With dozens of off-road trails to explore and miles of paved bike paths (and more continuously being built) Tahoe South is a well-known mecca for cyclists of all stripes. Designated as a bike friendly community, spins are plentiful and so are shops staffed by experts that rent and sell quality bikes. The famed loop around Lake Tahoe is 72 miles of scenery: deep blue water, Douglas Fir groves, and breathtaking views of Emerald Bay. The road also passes quaint waterfront lodging and plenty of eateries to fuel the journey.

Water Recreation: A romantic sunset dinner cruise aboard a luxury yacht or sailboat, a zip around the lake in a speed boat or Jet Ski, a quiet ride in a kayak, canoe or on a standup paddle board, Tahoe South offers plenty of opportunities to create your own wakes along the cobalt blue water. Or climb aboard a charter boat or head over to Cave Rock for some spectacular fishing opportunities. With visibility to 75 feet below its surface, Lake Tahoe is home to more fish than you can shake a pole at.

Gaming and casinos: Tahoe South is a full-deck of high-rolling, dice-kissing, slot pulling adventure. Home to world-class casinos that are refreshingly free of Vegas-style glitz, Tahoe South is a sure bet to get your game on. You may feel slightly virtuous after spending the day in the great outdoors: time to undo that feeling. If ever there was a place to rally, it is the casino core of Stateline.

Nightlife: When the sun goes down, Tahoe South is just warming up. From themed nightclub dance parties that celebrate the '70s and '80s to acoustic acts and jazz artist performances, sold-out amphitheater concerts, world-renowned DJs, top-notch comedians, and Grammy-winning musicians and groups, there's plenty of entertainment options to go around. Who knows, you may find yourself returning every weekend just for the shows.

Golf: Mark Twain once quipped that "golf is a good walk spoiled." Not so at South Shore. There's a reason why American Century Championship players walk the magnificent 18 at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course. No matter where you turn, there are dramatic views of either the Sierra, the lake or both. The South Shore area has six distinctive golf courses, each with their own vibe, views, dramatic landscape and all worthy of play.

Make your plans early for the 25th Annual American Century Championship July 15-20, and check out Tahoe South's wild side that keeps 'em coming back year after year.
